Ian Pearson

Employment Solicitor

Ian started his legal career at British Petroleum before qualifying at Nabarro Nathanson (now Nabarros) and then working for Linklaters, the UK’s number two lawyers. After some 20 years in London, Ian moved down to the West Country to pursue a number of interests, both legal and otherwise. Ian specialises in UK employment law and acts on behalf of both employers and employees in all areas of contentious, non-contentious and company commercial law.

Ian is a company director of two small companies, a private landlord and when not practising law runs Somerset’s smallest commercial microbrewery. “Thank you for your patience and I am more than pleased with the outcome. I am not sure that I will ever again need the services of an employment law specialist but I would be happy to recommend you to anyone with a problem.” AB Ilminster

Daniel Stevens

Dispute Resolution Lawyer

Dan hails from the Thames Valley – he worked for Boyes Turner in Reading before moving to the SW in 2002 to join Stones Solicitors’ Litigation Team in Exeter, moving up to become Head of the Department there. Dan then moved to a litigation specialist firm in Exeter before joining Amicus in 2013. Dan is a litigation and dispute resolution specialist with over 17 years’ litigation experience, from Court of Appeal through High and County Courts to Small Claims Court and in Mediations. With specialist experience (and age!) comes the understanding that clients do sometimes need a Rottweiler to hammer home a point and other times need a more pragmatic and commercially viable approach – not just a run of the mill legal expert who fails to understand what the client needs to achieve from a dispute he/she invariably could do without whilst costing a small fortune.

Dan has acted in reported cases on Search and Seize injunctions, the proper interpretation of covenants in title deeds and commercial contested lease renewals and he has acted in any number of contract disputes and contested debt claims, he will fight for your cause and he is an adept negotiator and commercially minded business lawyer.

Dan also provides dispute resolution services for Private Clients – Click here for more info

Growing Your Business

We Support Start-Ups With Legal Services

Start-ups require very different advice from more established businesses. From a difference in language, amount of support and fees.

Each of our lawyers have experience in all areas of the business life cycle and many of them are directors, company secretaries and landlords in their own right. This gives them a commercial edge over the ‘cradle to grave’ lawyers who go into law at university, into a legal practice as a trainee and work their way up the legal ladder. What this does not normally give them is the commercial insight and nous that you, as a business person, need.

Business start-ups need simple and easy to understand advice on so many aspects of the legal and business world. They need solid building blocks upon which they can build their businesses and give them the best chances of survival in the dog eat dog world of business. We arrange informal networking events (usually in pubs and over curries) for our clients to bring them together in a co-operative environment.

We have put together packages to make setting up a business affordable – from the simplest of off-the-shelf company formations to bespoke employment services for those first few employees. Some of these packages are fixed price, others need ongoing implementation and fees can be paid over a number of months or on-going over a year.

We Support Growing Businesses

For those in growing businesses your needs will certainly be different. Amicus Law Commercial give you the bespoke advice you need to get to where you want to be.

From assisting in investment and funding through to business disputes and exits, commercial law can be a minefield and however carefully you plan, things can go wrong; recessions happen, staff bring employment claims, customers would rather not pay you. With planning and proper handling, resolutions can usually be found to most of business life’s problems.

We Support Mature Businesses

A mature business need careful handling, management and support. Capitalising the value built up in a business over many years and securing a smooth transition of control to the next generation to take the business forward can often be fraught with emotional and practical issues. Planned effectively, the process can be managed to ensure all parties understand what is happening at each stage and how it impacts on them, to ensure a positive outcome.

We understand all the vital stages of your business development – all of which require different approaches – so wherever you are in the ‘hatch, match or dispatch’ cycle of your business, we are here to help you.
